Clear Trash And Debris Before The Storm
Clear Trash And Debris Before The Storm
Debris and unwanted items can pose a real danger during hurricane season. Keep this in mind when you're cleaning up:
Pre-Storm Maintenance
Contact your waste collector to remove bulky waste and discard unwanted items.
Trim trees and weak branches that could come in contact with your home. Be careful of power lines.
Thin foliage to decrease the risk of uprooting plants.
Take advantage of your regular collection days. Don't let waste pile up. Always follow the 6 ft/50 lbs rule: yard waste cannot exceed 50 pounds or 6 feet in any direction. Remember, waste is collected by hand labor.
As the Storm Approaches
Don't trim trees once a hurricane watch or warning is announced.
Don't take trash to the curb, transfer stations or landfills during a hurricane watch or warning.
Services will be suspended and facilities may close early to prepare for the storm.
After the Storm Has Passed
It may be several weeks before yard waste can be removed. An announcement will be made when services resume their normal schedule.
Separate household garbage from other waste in securely tied plastic (not paper) bags. Keep in mind, garbage collection takes priority over other waste collection services.
Don't place debris near a fence, mailbox, power lines or downed electrical wiring.
Trash will only be picked up curbside or on public roadways.
